What is TSH
Thyrotropin or thyroid stimulating hormone is abridged as TSH. This hormone is considered quite important for the better function of the thyroid gland. Pituitary gland is the source of this hormone.
Triiodothyronine or T3 and thyroxin T4 are two important hormone which thyroid gland releases and the release of these two hormones is controlled by this hormone. These two hormones have enough importance in different functions like controlling the normal physical and mental growth in the children as well as many other functions of the body are also controlled by these two hormones. People with extremely high or lower amounts of these hormones often have to suffer from serious medical conditions.
Physicians often orders a TSH test whenever they suspect some thyroid problems, as these tests are used to evaluate whether sufficient of TSH exists for the production of T3 and T4 hormones. This test is often quite difficult to read as actual levels of the hormones often seem to fall in a specific range, and it’s always a debatable issue in the medical community to reckon some range as normal and to generalize it. Some medical practitioners have also been criticizing this practice especially when it is not used with some other tests.
There are some conditions which are not obvious with this kind of test and thyroidits is one of these conditions. When the levels of TSH are considered low, these hormones are supplemented with T4 instead of the actual hormone to replace it.
