What is Strategy

This item was filled under Business & Economy

The way or plan we design for achieving a specific goal or perform some particular task is known as our strategy or a path to follow to achieve what we want. So, we can say planning in any field like war, business, marketing and sports can be called strategy. The word strategy has been derived from the Greek word strategia which means generalship or to lead especially in the battlefield.

So, it can be said the concept of it first emerged in military and then came towards some other fields like business, sports and other fields of life. There are some differences between strategy and tactics, as tactics relates to the conduction of some engagement while strategy relates to the way in which different engagements are associated. In simple, the way a battle should be fought comes under tactics while to decide whether is must be fought or not is a thing related to strategy and planning.

Just like military, the terms narrows the gap between tactics and policy in business and they both also narrow the gap between means and ends.

It is always easy to formulate some strategy, but its implementation and getting the desired results are always difficult things to achieve.  There are often such loopholes in devising some strategy that are unnoticed at the time their formulation, but they appear as the biggest hurdle in achieving the desired results  when the strategy and planning are on its way. Sometimes circumstances become absolutely contrary to which we were reckoning suitable for the implementation of this strategy. So, I have no qualm to say that we can make strategies, but we can’t find out whether they would definitely offer the desired results or have to undergo an utter fiasco.
