What is pH

Potential of Hydrogen or pH is a measurement which tells about a solution whether it’s alkaline or acidic. It also reveals about base or basic. When there is an equal amount of alkaline or acidic molecules, the pH is reckoned impartial. Water that is very soft is normally acidic, while considerably hard water is normally alkaline, but there can be some exceptions in unusual conditions.

The pH scale which is used for measurement is logarithmic that runs within 0.0 -14.0 while 7.0 is reckoned neutral. Those readings which are lower than 7.0 points towards acidic solutions, on the other hand higher readings point towards base or alkaline solutions. There are some extreme kind of substances that score even in negative forms (lower than 0) and some are found with higher than 14. However, a large number of substances fall in the scales.

A logarithmic scale indicates that ten-time difference is found between every successive number on the pH scale. An acidic solution with the reading of 4.0 shows that there is  ten-time increase in the acidic molecules on a solution with 5.0pH.

Muriatic or hydrochloric acid is quite well known as a caustic solution which occurs on the extreme end of the scale. The pH of highly alkaline water is lowered with hydrochloric acid. This kind of alkaline water is often treated with very small amounts of hydrochloric acid.
