Judo is a kind of martial art that has its origin in Japan, the word “Judo” is a Japanese word which means “gentle way” the word has been derived from jujitsu which is a Japanese martial art which means yielding way. It was in 1882 when Tokyo University president Dr. Jigoro Dano incorporated some jujitsu techniques which according to him were the best techniques and now these techniques have become the judo sport. In almost all judo techniques movement, leverage and balance are some skills to focus on.

Judo practitioners wear a cotton uniform that is known as judogi which also a Japanese word meaning “judo uniform,” sometimes it is also called gi. Usually, these uniforms are of white color, but they can also be blue. These uniforms consist of a quilted jacket and loose drawstring. A belt called obi is used to fasten that jacket. Usually, these uniforms are used for judo, but they are also being used for some other kinds of martial arts as well.

Various powerful throwing techniques are used in Judo and they are reckoned as the most noticeable things in watching judo. Some other grappling techniques are also used and these techniques are essential to learn to become a really good player of judo. Pins, choking, joint locks and control holds are some techniques that widely used in judo.

Unlike some other fighting techniques, skill and techniques are considered more important in judo than strength. With the help of these techniques, a smaller person can easily tackle a much stronger and bigger person.

Judo has become a popular game these days and people of almost all ages like to watch or practice judo. It also proves quite effective to keep people in good shape and increase their self confidence.
