What is IUI

Intrauterine insemination or IUI is a process of placing sperm in a woman’s uterus to provide support in conception. In a usual intercourse, a considerably lower percentage of male’s sperm can enter the uterus after crossing the cervix to fertilize egg. This small amount of sperms usually travels in the cervical mucous and passing through the cervical canal; it gradually enters in the uterus.

However, the ejaculated sperms are in billions, and this amount is just a fraction of the total amount of these ejaculated sperms. The chances of conceiving in a couple greatly increases, as it seems to do some essential things first like removing some obstacles that stopped sperm to enter uterus and these obstacles can be snitsperm antibodies or hostile cervical mucous.

This procedure proves effective to bring sperms nearer to the eggs and similarly it puts more sperms in the uterus and thus the chances of conception greatly increase in the couples.

The logic behind this procedure can simply be described as the greater number of sperms in the uterus in ovulation, the higher the odds of conceiving.

The procedure is usually utilized in the women who have to face difficulty in conceiving and this difficulty can be due to low motility of sperms of the male partner, hostile environment of the cervix and some other conditions that make it difficult for women to get pregnant.  People who use donor sperms for pregnancy also opt for this procedure.

There is a very low risk involved in this procedure and the procedure is minimally invasive too. A large number of women reckon it a first option for treating fertility when they can’t get pregnancy even after months and years of trying to get it. This option is also quite less expensive and its cost is nearly $300 to $1000 for each attempt.
