This hormone belongs to a compounds class that our body generates and which is called gonadotropins. These gonadotropins are a kind of protein that some sections of pituitary gland produce that also involves in endocrine hormones production. In females, these tests indicate the level of follicles in the ovary for maturation so that they can ovulate. According to some doctors, FSH is like a gas pedal that is pushed by the anterior pituitary gland. In men this hormone is considered effective in the production of sperms.
The levels of FSH are low during childhood, as children do not need sperm or eggs. But the levels of FSH begin to increase as the body gets ready for sexual reproduction. At the time of ovulation, the levels of FSH are the highest in women and these levels keep rising at the time of menopause.
