The way something is explained or the process, act or technique of describing something is called its description.  Similarly, a pictorial representation or a kind or sort of something is also known as its description. The word “Description” has its origin in 14th century French that came from the Latin stem description from descript that is past participle of Latin word describere.

The word Description also gives other meanings when it is used to describe something in the field of technology and computer science. For instance, audio description is a process that offers visual accessibility to movies, television, theater, and other images to those who have impaired vision, low vision or totally blind.

RDF or Resource Description Framework is a term that is being widely used in the field of internet and computer sciences these days. This framework is known as the general framework to describe some internet resource of a website or its content. In this kind of description, the things that can be included are resource authors, updating or creation date, information related to its rating and audience. With the help of this kind of framework description, it becomes possible almost for everyone to easily share other descriptions and website content. Similarly, it can prove effective for developers to develop metadata based products.

So, it can be said that the word “Description” takes different meanings and forms in different fields, but in general this word is used to describe and explain something and we say that the description of something is being given to us when this word explain or describe something and make it easier for us to understand whatever is described.
