CRP or C-reactive protein is a part of acute phase reactants class that originate in the blood of the humans. The human body begins to produce this protein when some inflammatory process occurs in it and for this reason it is targeted in the blood tests to look for the signs and symptoms of systemic infection. To measure and chart the values of C-reactive protein can also prove very helpful to determine the progress of some disease or to find out how effective the treatment process is. Recently, results of some studies have confirmed that this C-reactive protein also seems to play an important role in cardiovascular disease.

A CRP test is often performed at a medical clinic or a hospital on an outpatient basis and this test is based on a painless and quick procedure. Health physicians often use this test to get quick information about the condition of some patient.

It is believed that CRP supports in a harmonize binding of outer and damaged cells and it also seems to affect the responses of the hormones towards some disease.

To find out what role CRP plays in the body and in some medical condition, various studies have been conducted, and one such study indicates that those patients who were found with boosted CRP basal levels had considerably higher risk of becoming a victim of some heart disease and high blood pressure.

It has also been noticed that different people have different amounts of CRP production in their bodies and it is genetic makeup of a person that seems to affect its production in the body. Similarly, lifestyle is another important factor that affects its production in the body. Smokers, obese people and patients with high blood pressure often have higher CRP levels.
